Tanglewood Group Welcomes Nicole Mucheck to Administrative Staff
September 10, 2015
The Tanglewood Group is pleased to announce the addition of Nicole Mucheck, Director of Activities, to their administrative staff. Mucheck, who holds an M.S.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from St. Bonaventure University has several years of experience with behavioral and family therapy through her work at the Barber National Institute in Warren, PA.
Mucheck’s focus will mainly be with the memory-impaired population of the Group’s facilities. Her goal is to help create a holistic approach to daily living by inviting and facilitating resident participation in activities programs through the involvement of activities staff, care staff and families. “My intention is to grow the activities programs within the Tanglewood facilities, including Memory Garden and the Memory Care Household at Tanglewood Manor, to make a difference in the resident’s lives by helping to increase their overall daily quality of life.”
Specific training, in the form of in-services and hands-on guidance is being implemented to help develop a reciprocal relationship between the activities department and the universal care staff. This training will help to form a cohesive, team-based approach to overall resident care. Employees will be encouraged to work together to take it beyond the dementia and recognize each resident as an individual that needs the best in care and compassion.
Mucheck also intends to implement a system of data collection and measurement within the facilities to help develop a calendar that is focused on resident’s preferences and abilities. Activities programs are to be rotated among the facilities so that all memory care residents receive the same level of attention and motivation. “Memory Garden and Tanglewood’s current programs are based on activity and active engagement, so an individual coming to our facility does not have to give up the activities that they already love.” she says. “Many activities can be modified to the person’s ability level, which should increase the number of residents who can participate and help to reduce common negative behaviors such as agitation or wandering.”
“We are very excited to have Nicole as a part of our team.” states Terri Ingersoll, Tanglewood Group COO. “Her background in behavioral therapy brings a new dimension to our already specialized programming that will allow all of our residents to become more engaged, thereby creating an even more active and vibrant community throughout the Group.”
The Tanglewood Group has been offering quality care to seniors in the greater Jamestown area for over 30 years. For more information about Memory Care or any of the other Tanglewood Group offerings please call 483-2876.
