Tanglewood Licensed To Offer Dementia Specific Assisted Living
April 29, 2015
The Alzheimer’s association of Western New York Chapter reports that there are over 55,000 cases of dementia in our area. Dementia specific care is often cost-prohibitive to individuals with limited incomes, especially at the Assisted Living level. In order to address the issue of care for individuals diagnosed with dementia who do not require skilled nursing care, the Tanglewood Group has obtained a Special Needs Assisted Living Residence (SNALR) Certification for 9 memory carecompanion rooms at its Tanglewood Manor facility.
“This unit is the first of its kind in the area. We are responding to the demands of the growing memory impaired population with future plans to continue our growth in this area if the demand continues to exceed the availability of appropriate services” says Terri Ingersoll, Tanglewood Group’s COO. Tanglewood Manor now offers specialized memory care for individuals who are eligible to receive Medicaid.
Individuals in our area who suffer from memory impairment but are otherwise physically healthy have historically had few options for care other than costly private pay residential or home care. The Tanglewood Manor SNALR unit was developed to meet the needs of people who are not necessarily ready for a higher level of care, but who are not appropriate to live in a home environment without additional care and support for safety, but cannot afford the cost of such care.
The unit is housed in a separate wing from the rest of the facility and offers an intimate, more personal environment. Breakfast will be served to order and lunch and dinner will be delivered by the Tanglewood Manor kitchen in a separate dining area. Entrances/exits to the unit will be monitored 24 hours to eliminate the risk of wandering and daily activities that are tailored to the memory impaired will take place within the unit.
The living space also contains a comfortable lounge and activities area away from the facility’s general population where residents can enjoy a quiet and relaxing atmosphere away from excessive stimulation. The companion rooms, common areas and medication rooms have all been completely remodeled and refurbished.
Mike Anzalone, Director of Community Relations and Expansion for the Tanglewood Group, expresses his admiration of Owner Nick Ferreri’s commitment to senior care, especially for those afflicted with Alzheimer’s and dementia. “Mr. Ferreri could not be a better friend of Senior Living. He is passionately dedicated to providing whatever our residents need to live a meaningful, purposeful life.” he remarks.
The Tanglewood Group has been offering quality care to seniors in the greater Jamestown area for over 30 years. For more information about the new Dementia Unit at Tanglewood Manor or any of the other Tanglewood Group offerings please call 483-2876.
