The first Thursday of every December is traditionally an exciting time for the staff at the Tanglewood Group as that is the day when owner Nick Ferreri celebrates his staff and shows his gratitude for all that they have done during the year.

The celebration began with a luncheon for all staff catered by Sandee's Bakery with help from Tanglewood's dietary department. Following the luncheon, staff from all shifts gathered and listened as Ferreri spoke, praising everyone for their continued hard work and the love and care that the employees show to the residents, clients and their families.

The first award presented was the Service Award. This year's recipient was Timmy Newark, assistant facilities operations manager, who has been with the facility since February 2000. He was given a watch and a trophy for his years of service.

This year's Flawless Attendance Award was earned by five employees, each of whom received a check for $600. Those awards were presented to Victoria Thomas, HHA at Memory Garden, who achieved this feat for the second year in a row, along with four employees from the dietary department. Those four employees were dietary servers Pansy Martin-McClean and Valerie Nordine, as well as dietary cooks Lisa Barden and Jessica Delahoy, who also achieved this in 2011. Ferreri praised the entire dietary department.

Ferreri also gave honorable mentions to three staff members for their flexibility to work in many different positions throughout the facilities; those employees were HHAs Florence Harrington, Carrie Ordines and Bobbie Schwartz.

All of the employees of the month for 2012 from Tanglewood Manor and Memory Garden were then honored during a slide show set to music. Each had been nominated by their peers and received a certificate, a $100 gift card and a personalized parking spot for the month in which they were chosen.

It was then time to unveil the 2012 employee of the year, Lisa Rodriguez, an HHA who has been with Tanglewood for 12 years. She received two airline tickets for anywhere in the continental U.S. or the Caribbean and $1,000. She received a standing ovation from her co-workers.

All 32 employees who had perfect attendance during either the first or second half of the year, along with the 2012 employee of the month honorees, were eligible for the final awards of the year. New York state Sen. Catharine Young and Assemblyman Andrew Goodell drew the names of the final winners. Robin McChesney, housekeeping, and Carrie Bromley, HHA, each received $500.

The program concluded with Sen. Young and Goodell speaking with all staff and praising their hard work and dedication. Ferreri ended the program by giving all staff a Christmas ham.
